Antonio Gaeta Jr., LCSW
My name is Antonio and I am a therapist in the state of Indiana. I practice in the Indianapolis/Carmel area but I am more than happy to see people in Indiana through telehealth! A little about my background: I started my academic journey at the University of Michigan where I got my Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Master’s Degree in Social Work. While there, I held an internship in Detroit at a private practice where I got experience working one-on-one with individuals and some experience working with couples. From there, I moved to Indianapolis where I got my first full-time job working at a group practice and really began to hone my skills as a clinician. While there, I got experience working with individuals 13 and up struggling with challenges such as depression, anxiety, addiction, borderline personality disorder, and bipolar disorder. I also got the opportunity to meet with couples struggling with an array of relationship struggles.
Most recently, I worked at a substance use recovery center where I had the privilege to work with individuals struggling with addiction and in early recovery. Here, I gained more knowledge and experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and a combination of these to help people reach their unique individual goals for their respective sober journeys.
Through my career, whether in the outpatient or partial hospitalization setting, one of the most interesting and rewarding therapies that I have used with individuals is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. This approach is values based and helps people understand more about the life that they want to be living. A lot of times, we struggle with (1) knowing what our values are and (2) how to move closer to our values. Through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, we can work together to help alleviate some of these challenges.
Another approach that I am excited to be using is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I, along with my colleague, Evan, recently got trained and certified in this modality that focuses on helping individuals reprocess trauma (single event or complex) in a safe environment. Trauma can be a very challenging topic to approach but through EMDR and other evidence-based modalities we can approach it together.
A little about my approach: it is a strengths-based one. I want to work to help individuals find their own potential and empower them to make decisions that prioritize themselves!
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my wife and pets. I also enjoy watching football, playing games, and watching movies.
