Emotional Resilience for Kids
Emotions are confusing for kids. They can be intense, surprising, and we just aren’t born knowing what to do with them. That inspired me to create this group to help kids learn about their emotions, and learn skills they can use to deal with their feelings in healthier ways.
This group is designed to teach kids ages 8-10 new skills for increasing distress tolerance and positive responses to emotional experiences. I developed this group by taking resources (aka coping skills) that are commonly used in EMDR therapy, and adapting them to a format that is digestible for kids. We will spend each group learning about new resources, and practicing implementing them in the group setting, so the kids can learn from each other and support one another.
Making the group environment fun for kids is important to me because this helps to increase their ability to learn effectively. There are art activities and games incorporated into every single group session so that we can have fun while learning these helpful new skills!
See below for more information and to register!
The next section of Emotional Resilience for Kids ages 8-10 will be running from June 1st to August 3rd on Mondays from 4:30-5:30pm at our office in Carmel.

What to Expect
-
As mentioned above, Evan has over 10 years of experience in working with kids. This has allowed him to develop strong skills with managing groups of kids, big emotions, and most importantly making sure that we can have fun, while also meeting all of our learning objectives!
-
While parents/guardians will not be present during group time, it is very important that parents or guardians be involved throughout this process. This will include detailed handouts that will be provided to all parents and guardians about the topics that were discussed in each group session. This is especially important because having the kids continue practicing their skills between sessions is crucial to long-term implementation of the skills!
-
All groups at Keylight Counseling prioritize creating a safe and supportive environment. We will have clearly established group rules that will be regularly reviewed as needed to assure the space is positive and supportive of growth for all participants.
-
Continued practice of these skills outside of group time will be key to your child’s ability to implement these skills when needed. We will provide you with resources to make sure you understand the skills your child is learning and how to help them keep practicing!

This group is being ran for kids ages 8-10, due to developmental differences, it would not be as effective if we included a wider range. However, we are open to creating more sections of this group for other age ranges, so if you are interested in a group like this for another age range, reach out and let us know!
